Schools Engagement Program

Friday March 6th

Looking to give your students the ultimate dance excursion experience?

Our Schools Engagement Program provides your students with a chance to experience a day in the life of a company dancer. In the morning, they will participate in contemporary dance workshops alongside our company artists - taught by artistic director, Benjamin Curé. Next up is a special matinee performance of our brand new work for them to experience the power and creativity of professional dance theatre for themselves. Rounding out the day is an exclusive Q&A where your students will be able to hear from and ask questions of our cast and creative team.

Laura Rotin

VCE VET Dance Teacher, Caroline Chisholm Catholic College

“These experiences have been more than I and the students could have ever imagined... and have single handedly inspired my students to go beyond their comfort zone and create beautiful pieces of art.”

Colette MacLaren

VCE DanceTeacher, Founder of 3dArts Company

"As a VCE dance teacher, my students have walked away from these workshops and performances filled with renewed passion and excitement for their artform.”

Program Outline

Friday March 6th

9:30 - 10am
Arrival

The Space Dance and Arts Centre

318 Chapel St Prahran

We know that travel with students can be a "journey" of its own - so we have a soft arrival time. Our team will be at the studio to meet your group, get you settled and allow you time to warm up before we kick off with the workshops.

10 - 11:30am
Workshops

The Space Dance and Arts Centre

318 Chapel St Prahran

Students will participate in a contemporary dance workshop taught by our company artists/artistic director, Benjamin Curé. This is often many students' favourite part of the day as they get to interact directly with the artists! Teachers are also most welcome to participate (and many have over the years)!

11:30 - 12:15pm
lunch

Prahran

By this point your students are likely sweaty and hungry so it's time to catch your breath before the magic continues. The studio where the workshops take place is conveniently just 100m away from the gorgeous Chapel off Chapel where we perform. There are plenty of places to purchase food along chapel street and Princes Gardens next to Chapel has picnic areas if you'd like some time outdoors.

You'll know your students best and what support or chaperoning they'll need during this time.

12:15 - 12:30pm
Getting Seated

Chapel off Chapel

12 Little Chapel St Prahran

Welcome to the wonderful Chapel off Chapel, the first theatre Lion Heart Dance Company ever performed in! To ensure we don't delay anyone's transport plans, we ask everyone to be in the foyer by 12:15 so that we can get seated and started on time.

12:30 - 1:20pm
Matinee

Chapel off Chapel

12 Little Chapel St Prahran

This is where the magic happens - where sparks of passion ignite and aspirations of artistic dreams take root. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. There is a brief 20min interval and we ask students to leave their bags in their seats to help all patrons in the venue enjoy a smooth transition in and out of the theatre during this time.

1:30 - 2pm
Q&A

Chapel off Chapel

12 Little Chapel St Prahran

Following the show, we ask that you remain seated as our cast quickly catch their breath and wipe off a layer of sweat before returning to the stage for our Q&A. During this 30min panel, we open the floor to questions about all aspects of life in the arts. It's a great chance for students to ask those burning questions and gleam insights into the process of putting a production on stage.

We all know how much young artists (teenagers) love to ask questions in front of a room of people they don't know. We'd hate for one of your students to miss out on asking that burning question they had; so we strongly recommend getting your students to write down their questions before attending. We love encouraging exploration of ideas and want to hear from your students!

2pm
Conclusion

Cue the sad music.

With a huge day of dance wrapped up, it's time to head off feeling motivated, inspired and maybe a little bit tired.
